Take your measuring tape and note down the widest width and the highest height of your wall. We only need wall measurements, don’t include any skirting board or coving
Once we have these measurements, we add 1% for safe trimming.
We know walls come in all shapes and sizes, it’s one of the reasons we love them! For tips on measuring different wall types, scroll through the sketches below.
Simply measure the full height and width of the wall. We need your exact wall size, so don’t forget to double check the measurements before sending on to us. We only need the dimensions of the surface you wish to cover, excluding any skirting boards or coving.
When you have a sloped ceiling or wall, measure the longest and widest parts only, ignoring any slopes. We provide the mural as a whole rectangle or square, and the slope is cut away during installation.
If your wall has two slants, simply identify and measure the longest part of the wall in both the width and the height. Again, we will produce your mural as a square or rectangle, with the cutaways taking place during installation.
When there is a door, window or other obstacle on your wall, only measure the total width and height of the wall, as the obstacle will simply be cut away during hanging. Feel free to send us additional measurements, a photo or a rough plan as we can add the position of the obstacle to your proof image. Easy!
If you’re looking to wrap a wallpaper around multiple walls, simply combine the widths of each wall and submit one measurement when ordering. There’s no need to order the mural as two separate pieces.
Whether you’re an accomplished DIY-er, or an intrepid first timer, our installation advice is here to support you. With step by step instructions, we want you to feel confident you can complete your redecoration project yourself.
Your mural is printed on 1.2 meter wide strips that are helpfully numbered on each strip. Find the number on the strip and lay out in order so you are ready to install. Remember - we have made allowances for trimming top and bottom to compensate for uneven walls. Ensuring your wall surface is smooth and free of imperfections will make your mural look its best.
Apply a pre-mixed wallpaper adhesive directly to the wall. Hang the first length, working from top to bottom, and allowing the paper to fall naturally. Smooth over with a soft brush to ensure no air bubbles remain underneath. Check carefully for correct fit in key image areas (eye level and focal points) before top and bottom trimming, and reposition if necessary.
To achieve a seamless effect on a mural with multiple panels, we print useful markers on the borders of our paper to help you get it right. Using the crop marks on each panel, overlap lengths at the top and bottom as a guide, and visually match the image. Cut down the centre of the two overlapped panels using a sharp blade. When finished, gently lift the overlapping panel of paper and pull away the thin paper strip from underneath. Top tip: you can use a seam roller to ensure the product is well bonded at the join.
Continue to hang each subsequent panel using the method described above until the mural is complete. Carefully clean any adhesive or residue with warm water and a sponge, then step back and admire your new mural. What a beauty!
Imagine the feeling of sharing your new mural with your friends for the first time and their faces when you tell them you created it and installed it yourself. Let’s get cracking.
