Measurement & installation

Measuring your wall is easier than you think. All we need is the width and height of the wall at the longest and widest possible points. See the drawings below to get you started and don’t forget, we’re always here if you need us.

How to measure

Take your measuring tape and note down the widest width and the highest height of your wall. We only need wall measurements, don’t include any skirting board or coving

We will print your wallpaper 1-2% larger than the dimensions you give us to allow for adequate excess paper for trimming. This will make installation easier and safer.

We know walls come in all shapes and sizes, it’s one of the reasons we love them! For tips on measuring different wall types, scroll through the sketches below.

Standard wall

Simply measure the full height and width of the wall. We need your exact wall size, so don’t forget to double check the measurements before sending on to us. We only need the dimensions of the surface you wish to cover, excluding any skirting boards or coving.

Sloped wall

When you have a sloped ceiling or wall, measure the longest and widest parts only, ignoring any slopes. We provide the mural as a whole rectangle or square, and the slope is cut away during installation.

Pitched wall

If your wall has two slants, simply identify and measure the longest part of the wall in both the width and the height. Again, we will produce your mural as a square or rectangle, with the cutaways taking place during installation.

Wall with obstacles

When there is a door, window or other obstacle on your wall, only measure the total width and height of the wall, as the obstacle will simply be cut away during hanging. Feel free to send us additional measurements, a photo or a rough plan as we can add the position of the obstacle to your proof image. Easy!

Multiple walls

If you’re looking to wrap a wallpaper around multiple walls, simply combine the widths of each wall and submit one measurement when ordering. There’s no need to order the mural as two separate pieces.

1. Prepare your paper

Your mural is printed on 45cm wide strips that are helpfully numbered on each strip. Find the number on the strip and lay out in order so you are ready to install. Remember - we have made allowances for trimming top and bottom to compensate for uneven walls. Ensuring your wall surface is smooth and free of imperfections will make your mural look its best.

2. Place the first panel

Apply a pre-mixed wallpaper adhesive directly to the wall. Hang the first length, working from top to bottom, and allowing the paper to fall naturally. Smooth over with a soft brush to ensure no air bubbles remain underneath. Check carefully for correct fit in key image areas (eye level and focal points) before top and bottom trimming, and reposition if necessary.

3. Perfect your panels

For our medium paper, hang the panels edge to edge (there is no overlap), in a butt join. Visually match the image at the join and adjust the position until the design completely matches. Smooth out with a soft brush. Use a seam roller to ensure the product is well bonded at the joins and gently wipe away any excess paste with a dry cloth or slightly dampened cloth. Trim away any excess paper at the top and bottom of each drop using a knife and a straight edge.
For our heavy paper, your mural is printed with a 20mm overlap. Use the black crop mark at the top and bottom as a guide to overlap the panel onto the first. Visually match the image at the join and smooth out.

4. Repeat to complete

Continue to hang each subsequent panel using the method described above until the mural is complete. Carefully clean any adhesive or residue with warm water and a sponge, then step back and admire your new mural. What a beauty!
